Choreography of Body, Space and Cultures

Aleksandra Portyannikova’s dance project “External Bodily Awareness” is winning new audiences. Since January 2018, Aleksandra, Fulbright Visiting Scholar at The New School, School of Media Studies in New York, has been leading workshops and teaching tools of contemporary dance. These tools are based on mathematical models that describe chaotic natural processes. Her students are also learning theory and context of social choreography to identify regularities of city dwellers’ conduct, as well as design their own interventions in the city space.

Aleksandra is a graduate of the The Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, choreographer, co-founder and performer of Isadorino Gore Dance Cooperation, and teacher at International Dance and Performance Centre TSEKH.

Moreover, the Fulbrighter is an actively volunteer for One to World which sets up artistic activities for international students, faculty and scholars as well as students of low-income neighborhood in New York. She also has recently arranged workshops in Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont.
